Sweden: Aerial view

26 06 2008

I flew into Copenhagen from Charles de Gaulle airport, Paris.

This is an aerial view of Sweden taken from the airplane. And if it’s not Sweden, then blame my flight attendant for the mis-direction.

There’s no music to this but if you want to experience what I did, listen to “Crutch” by Pinback. It goes well.

my European adventure: London

25 06 2008

I’m hitting the tail end of my 2 week, 4 country European extravaganza…

- Barcelona site visits for Web2Expo Europe 2009

- London meetup, meetings and one intense 7-hr board meeting

- Paris to represent at the first Ignite event… @Philj you did a FABULOUS job! Congrats and keep ‘em coming

- Copenhagen for Reboot10

There’s so much I want to share… I told myself I’d stop writing posts in my head and actually get them on ‘paper’ but I’ve been toggling between busy, lazy and frustrated with my internet connections.

But now after a hot shower and some street-bought strawberries for breakfast I’m happily camped out at the Axel Hotel Guldsmeden in Copenhagen.

Here are some highlights from London:

Bond / Oxford Street fruit stand that appeared like an Oasis to my just-landed hunger

Our makeshift war room at Dopplr / Moo HQ – thanks for hosting gentlemen

Who attended? @blackbeltjones @swardley @tomraftery @brady @pahlkadot @monkchips @bn_at_twitter + gregor hochmuth

Who couldn’t make it but helped tons? See here for full advisory board listing. :)

And after some well-deserved beers in Hoxton Square, Simon Wardley and I pitstopped here -

where I pimped out Web2Expo a bit and found this lil bit ‘o geek cool -

I also went on a personal pilgrimage to my old London hood in search of steak pie.

Hey NYU folks – remember this place? Well, unfortunately the menu changed and gone was the soft crusted, no liver pie – so I went away hungry.

But even without steak pie – London was a great trip.

Onward…

Grandmother’s Cooking.

14 06 2008

I went down to LA a few weeks back and spent some time with my darling grandmother. She may be 83 years old but as weird as this sounds, she’s sometimes more like a teenage sister to me. We shop, eat, swap dating escapades and share stories of the good, the bad and the ugly… and vow to keep our West Coast secrets from my parents back home. I love it. I love her.

My grandmother is a fantastic cook – and the biggest joy I get is eating the fruits of her labor. She’s been feeding me since I was a little girl in Brooklyn… through high school after-volleyball hunger rages in the Bronx and kept me (and my friends) fed through grad school in LA.

As she gets older and her movements a bit slower, I appreciate even more the amount of prep that goes into the creation of a simple, home-cooked Korean meal.

This was the personal dinner table she set up for me when I went to visit.

Dishes:

*Bone marrow soup (simmered over 2 days)

*Redondo Beach crab fried in eggs

*Seafood bindaeduck (bean-based Korean pancake)

*Fried red croacker

*Radish kimchee

*White rice w/beans

*Salted, dried sea weed

*Fresh red lettuce (picked from her neighbor’s garden)

*Red pepper/sesame oil dipping paste

That day, I feasted. Thank you grandma.

With utmost love and respect
